Case Study: DH: A Day in the Life Video Series

“Giving new department recruits a warm welcome into their new role as Environmental Health Officer”

A project to help a government department paint a realistic picture of a job role

The Challenge

The Victorian Department of Health (DH) wanted to provide new Environmental Health Officer (EHO) recruits an introduction to their daily work environment and offer personal welcome messages from existing EHOs.

Our Approach

Liberate Learning sent our videographer to nominated metro and outer rural metro locations. Using a high-level script provided by the Department, we filmed current EHO officers in different Shires sharing their typical daily tasks and duties.

We then created two short videos with two nominated EHOs who take the recruit through a typical workday. The videos include personal comments about:

  • why the EHOs chose their role
  • what tasks to expect on a given day
  • which industry areas do they cover
  • what positive impact the EHO’s work has on public health outcomes.

Outcomes

The Department now has two ‘day in the life’ videos that welcome new EHOs. The videos are used internally and viewed by new EHOs within the DH learning management system.
